A spot on left breast close to armpit causing frequent recurring pain – what treatment?

I am a 25 year old woman. There is a spot on my left breast close to the armpit. This spot causes pain to me. This pain is being caused for last 4-5 days. Sometimes the pain subsides, but then it again recurs. I am feeling a lot of difficulties due to this spot. Sometimes, due to the pain, my left hand movement is also restricted. What could be the reason? What treatment should I take? Am I required to show to the doctor if it is a serious problem?

Answer (by Dr. Neelam Dhamija): Please clarify first as to what do you mean by the spot. Is that there a swelling or just a change in colour of the skin in that area. Please let me know that when did you have your periods, so as to know if  the pain  is just before your periods (premenstrual pain). As appears from your complaint it might  be some kind of inflammation of the axillary tail of the left breast or due to some strain on the muscles of that area. If there is any swelling, you must get one ultrasound  of the breast done and consult some breast surgeon with the reports. Please visit a doctor and take her advise.
