Braces treatment for correction of teeth alignment – maintaining oral hygiene

I am wearing braces for correction of teeth alignment. Can I get cavities under the braces? If so, how can that be treated? For how long I need to wear these braces for my problem? My teeth are yellowish white in colour. What is the reason for yellowish discolouration of the teeth? Answer (by Dr. Chirag Semlani): Braces treatment or orthodontics procedure involve alignment of maligned teeth in their best possible position in the jaw. The treatment is slow moving as the tooth take times to move in jaw sometimes the procedure may last till 18 to 24 months approximately. Flossing become impossible during the procedure but you can use mouthwash to maintain hygiene. Yellowish discolouration is possible due to not cleaning teeth properly, which causes plaque deposition on the teeth. Consult your orthodontist for the proper brushing technique for this treatment.
