Burning sensation in mouth – causes, treatment, precautions

I have burning sensation in my mouth. I feel burning sensations on my tongue, palate, lips, gums and inside the cheeks. Why do I feel so ? Is this a serious problem? Do I need to do certain blood tests to find out its cause? How can this be treated? What types of treatments are available for this problem? If there is any thing I can do to have some relief. Answer (by Dr. Chirag Semlani): Burning sensation can be due to various reason it can be due to anaemia, diabetes, vitamins deficiency, infections, hormonal imbalances, allergy, drug side effects, etc. Blood test will shortlist the cause of the problem. Till then you can try some remedies which will alleviate the symptoms. Avoid alcoholic and acidic beverages ( fruit juices, cola, tea, coffee etc.). Avoid tobacco in any form. Avoid eating hot and spicy food. Drink plenty of water, sucking on ice chips is also good. Sugar free  chewing gums are also helpful.
