What Foods To Eat

Oftentimes, a diet which is good for keeping away yeast infection is also good for your body as a whole too. By restricting your sugar intake, you can reduce your chances of developing a whole array of other disorders that can later on cause Candida infections to keep coming back. A healthy amount of sugar in your diet will reduce the chance of developing type 2 diabetes and will help your digestive system flush out all the toxins produced by your body. A high sugar diet also increases your chance of being overweight, and being overweight is another cause of frequent recurring Candidiasis.

Vegetables

Most vegetables will be beneficial in your battle against yeast infections. They stop the Candida from getting the necessary sugars and mold it feeds on and therefore keeps it at bay. Spinach, broccoli and avocados are all great for cleansing your body, and will give you necessary vitamins and minerals needed to keep your body healthy. Avoid all starchy and sugary vegetables such as sweet potato, peas and most beans.

Herbs And Spices

Herbs and spices are great when you’re on a Candida diet plan. A lot of these plants actually exhibit anti fungal properties, meaning they’ll actively help fight the yeast when you have it in your body. If you find that your meal plans are a bit bland without the sugars and excess salt, then try adding more of these herbs and spices to your dishes to “spice” things up. All herbs are allowed, but in particular, try introducing chillies, basil, rosemary and garlic to your meals. Both your body, your Candida overgrowth and tastebuds will thank you for it.

Oils

If you’re stuck with what oils to use when cooking then look no further. Coconut oil is both extremely tasty, and acts as an anti fungal component. If you don’t like coconut oil, then feel free to use virgin olive oil which gives you a whole range of health benefits too.

Yogurts

We’ve all seen those adverts that explain the difference between good bacteria and bad bacteria. Scientifically speaking, it’s not quite as clear cut as that, but in this scenario in particular, you should stock up on yogurts because they provide the “good” bacteria that help control and regulate the yeast in your body. If you’re currently suffering from a yeast infection then adding more bacteria into the mix will help choke the yeast production and hopefully alleviate the problem.

Tea

A lot of types of tea are actually incredibly healthy. Ginger tea, peppermint tea and cinnamon tea in particular are very useful in fighting yeast with their anti fungal properties. Not only this, but tea is great for getting anti oxidants in your diet and generally helsp keep your digestive system in tip top shape.

Sweeteners

To replace the sugar in your diet, you can use artificial sweeteners. It’s debatable whether natural sugar or artificial sweeteners are better for you in general, but in the context of a Candida diet, you should avoid all sugars. If you find that you can’t eat foods without some sort of sweetener, then try Stevia or Xylitol as a replacement.

What Foods To Avoid

Sugars

Anything with sugar in it will make your Candida problem worse. As we mentioned above, yeast needs sugar to reproduce and survive. Putting more sugar into your body is going to improve its living environment, and therefore cause the overgrowth to become even worse. As you’ll find out soon, a lot of foods have sugars in it, and you’ll be surprised how much of your current diet has at least a bit of it. You won’t be able to cut it all out of your diet, and having some sugar is necessary for your body to function correctly, however you should still make a conscious effort to cut out the foods that are very high in glucose.

Fruits And Some Vegetables

Fruits are incredibly high in natural sugars. Whilst this is good for a non Candida diet, it is terrible for one trying to fight yeast. Cut these out, or restrict them for the time being and introduce them back into your diet when it’s all over. Most vegetables are good to eat as long as they’re fresh and not very starchy. The ones to avoid include potatoes, carrots, parsnips etc.

Meats

Once again, most fresh meat is absolutely fine, however, refrain from consuming any processed meat such as packaged ham, spam as they contain a lot of sugars. Pork should also be avoided if possible.

Dairy

While yogurts are great for your Candida diet, the lactose found in other dairy products like milk and cheese is terrible for your stomach and your intestines. Dairy products should be a vital part of your long term diet, so once the yeast problem subsides, please introduce it back into your meals.

Alcohol

Alcohol is full of simple sugars and carbohydrates which break down into sugar. If you’re used to drinking large amounts of beer on a night out, then this sugar content can add up very quickly, resulting in a better environment for the yeast to prosper. On top of this, high and frequent alcohol consumption will result in overweight issues.
