Did you know that you actually get much more than that morning zing from your good old cup of joe? From physical, to mental, to all around anti aging, go ahead and check out the benefits of coffee.
Research was done, and even published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, showing that women who actually drink coffee, the caffeinated kind, have a much lower risk of depression.
“Caffeine is known to affect the brain because if modulates the release of mood transmitters. I’m not saying we’re on the path to discovering a new way to prevent depression, but I think you can be reassured that if you are drinking coffee, it is coming out as a positive thing.”- Dr. Albert Ascherio
In yet another study, coffee has been proven to ward off cancer. Not just any cancer, but the most common one around, basal cell carcinoma, aka, skin cancer. According to research done by Harvard Medical School, women who drink about 4 cups a day have a 20% lower risk while men have a 9% lower risk. Definitely one of the best benefits of coffee yet.
- But just because your loaded up on caffeine it doesn’t mean that you can go ahead and brave the sun unprotected. Your broad spectrum of SPF is still, and probably always will be, your skin’s best friend fighting off those damaging UV rays.
Prevents Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Too
Caffeine is definitely good for your brain, and not just because of how coffee jump starts it in the morning. Research has shown that caffeine gives your GCSF, Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor, a good boost. In English, this GCSF basically is a growth factor that helps keep the brain young and keep away Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Plus, it has also been proven that it helps build up new brain neurons and create brain cell connections too.
A Great Source Of Antioxidants
Apparently, coffee is super loaded with tons of antioxidants. And you all know the golden rule, ANTIOXIDANTS = ANTI AGING. You see, antioxidants fight off free radicals that do a ton of damage and really speed up your aging clock. So probably didn’t know this, but your morning cup is actually a part of your anti aging beauty routine.
Confused about coffee? Isn’t it dehydrating, which means it is bad for the skin? Since coffee does have diuretic properties (meaning it makes you pee a whole lot more), it was believed to be dehydrating. However, recent studies show that it only has a very mild effect. So as long as you don’t go caffeine crazy and keep the coffee at moderation, 2-4 cups a day at the most, no dehydrating damage will be done
Speeds Up Metabolism and Helps Burn Calories
Just as it perks up your brain, it also gives your metabolism a good boost too, long as it’s black, that is. Black coffee is great to help whittle your waistline and lose those unwanted pounds as it also helps burn calories- one of the benefits of coffee that I’m sure your glad to hear.
You see, coffee, as is, isn’t fattening at all. It’s all of those fancy kinds that are- Macchiato, Cappuccino, what have you. It is simple math, the more sugar and cream, the more calories.
