About 15 days back, I had brown discharge. It was during my menstrual period. However, the brown discharge did not stop even after the period. It is continuing even till today though its intensity varies from day to day. Sometimes it is thin and sometimes thick. I conducted the pregnancy test but the result was negative. However, I am not facing any problems due to such discharge which is brown in colour. I am a married woman having an active life. Kindly advise me what to do. Do I need to get examined by a doctor or is it normal?
Answer (by Dr. Neelam Dhamija): Brownish discharge can be due to infection, hormonal imbalance or any polyp. Consult your gynaecologist your examination can reveal if there is any infection, your paps smear test will rule out the possibility of any cancer and ultrasound examination of pelvic region will also help in finding out any abnormality in the uterus, endometrial thickness, presence of polyp or if you are having Polycystic ovarian disease. You can again repeat pregnancy test, if pregnant presence of brown discharge is not a good sign of healthy pregnancy. What ever may be the cause (as can be confirmed from the reports) may be treated accordingly.
