Indigestion : causes and symptoms
Indigestion:-
Inability of stomach to digest ingested food material is called as indigestion. Chest burn, unpleasant taste in mouth, tendency to vomit (nausea), vomiting, discomfort, abdominal irritation are the main symptoms associated with Indigestion.
Causes of indigestion:-
* Stress leads to excess gastric ulcers and causes indigestion.
* Gastric or duodenal ulcers,
* Duodenitis,
* Gastritis,
* Hiatal hernia,
* stomach or esophageal cancer,
* Helicobacter pylori infection,
* Some medications causes indigestion due to side effects.
* consuming a particularly large, spicy or fatty food,
* Swallowing excess food without proper chewing also causes indigestion.
* Eating certain foods such as chocolate or oranges in excess quantity, which relax the sphincter and causes indigestion.
* Eating foods that directly irritate the lining of the oesophagus, such as coffee and tomatoes, excess green chilly currie etc causes indigestion.
* Smoking, which relaxes the esophageal sphincter and make acid reflux more likely, leads to indigestion.
* Leaving a lot of time between eating meals. Excess acid production in the stomach takes place and after food ingestion there will be neutralized
acid fails to digest food material.
* Pregnancy – the space needed by the developing baby pushes the stomach upwards towards the oesophagus and the changed hormone level in body alters digestion.
Symptoms of indigestion:-
* abdominal discomfort,
* Heartburn,
* nausea and vomiting,
* feeling of heaviness in stomach due to excess eating,
* Flatus,
* Stomach pain,
* feeling of gas collection in stomach.
