Last year I went to a dentist because I had pain in my teeth for few days. My dentist examined me and after that he advised me, that I need filling in one tooth. After he did filling, my jaws got locked for about 10 minutes. After few months, I went back to him again for some tooth problem. He did filling in my other tooth and again I was not able to close my jaws for few minutes. Please tell me as to why I am having this problem of closing my jaws after dental treatment. Is there any problem with my jaw? Answer (by Dr. Chirag Semlani): It is normal to have slight pain in the jaw post dental treatments as this is because of the stress of the treatment. But if this thing continues for more than a day you should consult the dentist or the TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) specialist, i.e., a jaw joint specialist. [Note: The temporomandibular joint is the joint of the jaw, also commonly called TMJ. It is a joint of two bones, namely, the upper temporal bone which is part of the skull, and the lower jawbone or mandible.]
