Meditation to make you look and feel younger

There is much more to anti-aging than just taking care of your skin, body, and health.  To truly look and feel young, you have to tap into your mind and soul as well.  Now, I’m not saying that you should ditch your daily anti-aging routine and rely solely on meditation.   

It isn’t a total anti-aging miracle pill on it’s own, however, it does have tons of benefits that certainly help slow down the whole getting old process.

What Exactly Is Meditation?

Meditation isn’t just sitting down on the floor with your legs crossed(aka lotus position or Indian style), index and thumbs together, eyes closed, and going “woo Sarah…”.   It is a discipline, an art even, of freeing your mind into a deeper state of self-awareness.

Sounds complicated?  Well, it is much easier than you may think.  But before we move on to the relatively simple steps on just how to get started, have a look at just what you can get from practicing it.

 How To Get Started
Now that you know more about meditation and what it can do for you, you’re probably wonder just how exactly do you get started.
 1. The Right Time
The very first thing that you have to do is make time to meditate.  As a beginner, it is probably best for you to start early in the morning right before your hectic day begins.  This is actually an ideal time of the day because your body, mind, and even spirit are already well rested.
 But, if you can’t squeeze it in the morning rush, meditation is a pretty good way to end the day as well.
2. The Right Place
Finding the right place is just about as important as finding the right time.  Where you meditate will be kind of like your very own sanctuary.  You do not need to run off to some temple to do it.  If you don’t have the perfect, quiet, little spot- you can create one.  Like in your living room, for example, turn off all distractions– phones, TV, radio, and the like.
Meditating outside is actually a good idea too if you have a peaceful backyard to go to or maybe even a nearby stream.  Just make sure that it is peaceful and far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
 3. The Right Position
Find a nice spot on the ground- but you can also use a cushion if you like.  People usually use the lotus position when meditating, but the key is actually in your backmake sure it is nice and straight.  This is very important for proper breathing.
  • Tilt your pelvis forward.
  • Starting from the very bottom of your spine, you want to sort of “stack” each part one on top of the other until you feel that you are supporting the weight of your entire torso, the weight of your neck, and the weight of your head.
  • Loosen up your arms and legs and just let them relax.  (It is pretty common to let your arms rest on your thighs, but you can also just leave them on your sides- whichever feels right.)  The rest of your body should follow.
  • Close your eyes.

4. The Right Breathing (Along with the Right Mantra)

 Take a deep breath, inhale.  It is actually very helpful to exhale with a mantra.  This can be just about anything you like- from a simple “om…” to “my boss does not exist…”.  You can say it out loud or keep it quiet in your mind.
Counting 1-10 before starting again is great for beginners.
You also want to picture a soothing place to help you “let go” and “give in”.  This can a secluded beach you once visited or you can just leave it all up to your imagination.

5. The Final Step

From focusing on just one thing, one place, you will learn how to focus on absolutely nothing at all. Now this, on the other hand, may actually be harder than it sounds.
 It takes a lot of discipline to truly get to this point.  So don’t give up if you didn’t get it on your first try.  With enough practice, you are sure to reach the very pinnacle of meditation.

Meditation is like farming….. the right soil is required to grow anything, nothing will grow if the soil is polluted by striving or pushing too hard.
