Question: I have two children they are 12 and 15 years old. I have to take them to the dentist every now and then. Both of them have cavities in their teeth. What can be done to prevent future cavities in their teeth. I heard of some paint, if applied to teeth will keep away the development of cavities. Is this true? How can the paints prevent cavity in the teeth? There are so many toothpastes available in the market, how can I know which one to choose for my family. I am very much confused. Please guide me.
Answer (by Dr. Chirag Semlani): The procedure is called Fluoride application. Where a fluoride chemical in the form of paint is applied on the teeth. Fluorides are very effective in prevention of dental decay. Fluorides reduces decay of tooth enamel by formation of fluorapatite a stronger dental substance. These prevent early decay than the non fluoride applicated teeth. Consult your Pedodontist or nearby dentist for more details. Toothpaste available in the market chemically are all one and the same. It really doesn’t make any difference as to which one you choose. Whichever suits your family you should go with that. Brushing twice with proper technique is important.
