I am SO glad I found this site! I have plenty of questions. LOL A little about me I’m 25, married with 2 small girls. I have had Anxiety/anxiety attacks for a few years now. I started with a few meds and finally was on Effexor xr 150 and Abilify 5 mg. I was doing great on that for over a year. Then I found out I was expecting my second child so stopped everything right away. I still wanted something because anxiety attacks are horrible and scared to death of them! My dr oked Zoloft. He wanted me on 100mg but 50 did the trick! As soon as my second daughter was born in March everything started acting up again! I went back to my family dr all the time and I never felt right. I finally decided to see a specialist (Also because I had a feeling I was being over medicated and I was!) So June of this year I started to see my psych. I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 my first vist. I couldn’t believe it. I was upset and didn’t want to believe it, even tho I knew something was the matter.  I was reading online about different anxiety related stuff and came around Bipolar articles and thought I had it, and even told my psych off the bat I thought I was looking into things to much. I still don’t think I have it, UNTIL I get irritated. I guess because he “says” I have it…LOL Make sense? Then went I get irritated I get more upset because I think my BP is acting up. So first question when do I know I need to increase my meds. Because I have been getting irritated with my oldest daughter who is 5. She doesn’t listen to me and is always fighting with me. I’m sure this is normal but I just need to ask. I have also been super lazy the past few days. My sleep schedule is messed up. I was up late one night now can’t go to bed at a decent time! Then nap during the day!!! UGH I’m just so stressed about having to up my meds! I hate that thought!!!

Well I have been on Effexor XR 150 and 750 of Depokote since June. I’m having nasty hair loss, and dr told me to take folic acid. Also can’t drink for CRAP!!! I’m such a light weight anymore, and wake up the next day feeling like CRAP (Out of it and or moody) This really pisses me off because be4 I got pregnancy I was on Abilify and Effexor, only for anxiety and was able to drink fine! I enjoy having a few drinks during the week! That’s another question!

I really am happy I found you guys. I get all these questions going threw my head during the week then at my appt’s I forget or feel fine! I really need others to talk to. Thanks so much for reading.

Re: A few questions.
I get a lot of irritability with my BP, too.  I think I might be in denial because I don’t like to think my irritabilty is a bipolar thing, but the p-doc does so I’m not going to argue with him.  He keeps telling me that when we find the right meds, the irritability will go away.  So I guess it’s not so much a matter of needing more medication, just a different one.  Does that kinda of answer your question?  I know that’s not very clinical, hopefully someone else can cover that stuff better than I can.

As for the hair loss…. that’s a Depakote thing.  I had it too.  Despite quitting Depakote my hair is still falling out.  I take folic acid every day, too.  My p-doc also gave my Zinc and Selenium.  I read that Biotin and Inositol can help as well, but I haven’t added those to the mix.  So far, the supplements haven’t helped the loss very much but I’ve been told that the hair loss goes on a 3 month cycle and I only quit the Depakote a month and a half ago.  Basically I’m telling you all this because I’m going through the hair thing and I’m not even on the drug anymore.  You’re going to have to get aggressive and take measures to prevent more hair loss if you’re going to stay on Depakote.  Ask about other vitamins and minerals you can take.

Thanks so much for writing back! That did help Smiley I hope finding the “right” meds is all it takes! I rather stay on something with a lose dose. Being on a high dose makes me upset and feel like I’m crazy! I have been on Depakote 3 months I think, and man my hair is messed up! I can’t control it at all now (Have curly hair) and I can really see the breakage. I really hope it stops because if not this pill is going down the toilet! Is there something else like it I could take without hair loss?

Thanks so much!

Re: A few questions.
I really have no practical advice on the hair loss issue as far as switching meds.  You mentioned your hair is breaking, have you tried any strengthing shampoos or a conditioner with silicone? My hair is falling out at the scalp with the white root part still attached.  If your hair is breaking somewhere along the shaft maybe something external can help the situation.
