Health QuestionsCategory: MedicationsAnyone taking Dalmane?

<Or whatever the hell its generic name is?> <Do you guys insist on trigger warnings around here?  If so I’m triggering.  Sue me.>

And what are the odds of it causing depression?

I stomped my feet and demanded a REAL PI sheet at the pharmacy, and it’s the first damn PI sheet that hasn’t had PERCENTAGES on it that I’ve ever seen!  What a load of crap!

So I’m feeling like sh!t, pissed off as hell, passively s**c*dal, and I *think* it might be the EXTREMELY ABRUPT switch from Restoril to Dalmane, but I have no clue.  And I went from 60mg Restoril to 15mg Dalmane, and although I’m *sleeping* better, I’m still DEPRESSED.

I don’t *like* depressed.  Given my natural state, I normally live in hypomanic if left to my own devices.  And now I’m living in “desperately trying to force myself to get out of bed to try and pretend I give a flying f*ck at work because my hubby just lost his job due to a disability and we can’t afford for me to get fired too” hell with absolutely HORRID mental images going through my head constantly as I sit here.

I’ve got an exacto knife on my desk <yes, actually necessary for work> and I’m seeing myself FILET my fingers.  How freaking gross is that?  Why the hell am I thinking this?  I want it to GO AWAY!  And I’m going to be “pooh pooed” by my doctors again, cause doctors freaking SUCK ROCKS and we have no money to go get prescriptions anyways and we’re in the middle of our damn deductable period and have no damn way of coming up with $2000 for meds before our insurance kicks in again anyways.  AAAAACK!

How much freakoutage can I blame on the damn dalmane anyways?  Can I call it Dalmane’s fault?  Please?  *sigh*

And what else do I try for sleep besides “very large mallet on forehead”?

Im sorry to hear you are feeling so shitty. Just a friendly note of advice: seriously seriously watch your step on dalmane. My grandmother was addicted to it and suffered the worst withdrawal symptoms imaginable when the British government withdrew it over here in the 1980s. Have you tried zopiclone/zimovane? I use that for sleep and find it really helpful.

I just looked it up, and it looks like it’s not really available in the US.  <Spiffy.>

I have a call in to my pdoc to throw a fit.  We’ll see what happens.

Dalmane is not causing your depression.   I was surprised to hear Dalmane is not available in the U.S. because I just got my second prescription for it today.

If you are having money problems, both Dalmane and Restoril are generic.  Ambien and Ambien CR are new and expensive, whereas the older drugs such as Dalmane and Restoril are cheap.

I hope you are on an antidepressant in addition to your sleeping pills.  But a good night’s rest will do wonders.

I have permission from my doc to take 30 mg Restoril when I have to get up early, and 30 mg Dalmane when I don’t have to get up, as Dalmane causes a tiny “morning hangover” which is helped with a good cup of coffee.

They are both good drugs.  Sleep well, and address you other issues with the appropriate antidepressant.

See what I get for my lack of quoting?

I meant “zopiclone/zimovane” is not available, not Dalmane.  And Dalmane assuredly was causing my depression.  Not only can benzos notoriously cause depression, <it’s in the PI sheet> but when I *stopped* taking Dalmane I started feeling significantly better.

And I can’t take antidepressants, they make me manic in a matter of days.  Sometimes the next day if I’m lucky enough.  I can’t even take Sudafed or any narcotic based drug without getting manic, my doctor isn’t going to prescribe me Paxil.  And for good reason

In the US there’s a drug called Lunesta (eszipiclone), which (as I understand it) is supposed to be a newer, more potent-per-weight version of zopiclone (but isn’t).

The generic name of Dalmane is flurazepam.
