Health QuestionsCategory: TreatmentsDepression and Lamictal

My pdoc put me on lamictal  a while back (sorry can’t remember exactly when, my memory is shot) to help with my bipolar depression. Trouble is, I keep falling into depression. I’m at a dossage of 300mg right now because I can’t tolerate anything higher (I tend to get double vision at higher doses).  Has anyone else been prescribed Lamictal for this reason and did it actually help?

By the way, I read recently that Lamictal has been approved for generic. Has anyone heard anyththing about when the generic version might be coming out?

Re: Depression and Lamictal
lamictal is the med of choice for bipolar depression.  that’s why i take it, & it works for me.

they have a generic for the 5mg chewables.  they suck.  they don’t work at all.  (at least for me)

Re: Depression and Lamictal
on the main site’s lamictal page, it says: “The maximum dose for bipolar is 400mg a day, as long as you’re not taking Depakene (valproic acid), Depakote (divalproex sodium) or Depacon (valproate sodium), in which case you max out at 200mg a day.”

so, i think the depakote you’re taking means your 350mg of lamictal is really like 700mg.  if you’re not feeling anything at that dosage, i’d say it’s probably time to try a different med.

Re: Depression and Lamictal
Thanks,

I’ll talk it over with my pdoc the next time i see him. I’m actually down to 300mg of lamictal, anything over that and I get double vision that lasts for hours. At this point I don’t think that extra 50 makes much difference owing to the depakote I take.
