Ok, I’ve been on lamictal for about 2 and a half months, for the past month at 200mg. Also taking 5-10mg of abilify. Both for BP2. Other than not being able to remember a fucking thing, things are working out ok.
One thing I have noticed that seems to be getting worse, is that I get scared much easier.  I mean fear really causes my adrenaline to spike. I don’t mean like my usual type of fear, like fear of emotions. But things that used to give me a rush.

For instance several weeks back I was on a hike and when it came time to cross a stream or walk across a log, I was pretty scared. Or last night I was on the back of a friends motorcycle, and was scared to death. Or speaking in public, I used to love it, now I get very nervous.

I am wondering if this is a side effect, or a direct effect. I mean is this a result of me being stabilized, of being made “normal”. Or is it just my body adjusting to a biochemical change and things will return to normal, minus the miserable highs and lows. Because when this happens I really don’t feel like myself, and it is causing me to think about stopping this shit all together.

I hope this makes sense, I am having a hard time explaining it. But there really aren’t to many people I can ask, so if you have any experience with this, let me know.

Re: Fear???
During hypomania and mania I had no fear! So I suppose it is possible that your being normal you have once again developed some healthy fear. But I am sure it is something that you can over come without going off your medication. If it is that important to you. It is called being scared sh*tless and doing it anyway. Hang in there!

Re: Fear???
At least you’re not paranoid. That would be something to truly fear (no pun intended).

I had very little fear until Lamictal removed my depression – now I have fear about things I should probably have fear about!  But I don’t have chronic disabling anxiety – that’s a plus Cheesy

Everyone’s brain is soooooo different – keep working at it until you get the combo that works the best for you!

Re: Fear???
I take both Lamictal and Abilify for Bipolar I and have found when my dosage is too high, I become paralyzingly fearful. It took me six months to figure that out but when my pdoc lowered each dose by just a little bit,  it kept me my mood just as stable but the fears went away (I guess I needed to start off with more to get everything under control at first and then as I stabilized my brain needed less of each).

Can I say for sure that this is why you might be having symptoms?  No, but I think its just something to think about.
