Health QuestionsCategory: TreatmentsHas anyone had a postive experience with this?
Whysterialayne asked 3 years ago

Seriously, I haven’t heard one good thing about it,

and ironically when I go to my pdoc, the drug company that makes it gave him all kinds of freebie stickie notes so all my reminders to do things are on Depakote stickies  Smiley

Does this stuff actually work for anyone here?

Re: Has anyone had a postive experience with this?
Depakote got me out of the mental hospital and into the emergency room which would have been a lot easier to escape from if I had my ATM card.

Re: Has anyone had a postive experience with this?
You know, if it weren’t for the side effects ….

Depakote helped me enjoy my Disney World vacation.  It calmed my moods and made life easier for those around me.  After the tired phase wore off, I felt GREAT.  I enjoyed life, I lost most of my phobias, I LOVED food, everything was simply good.  But I gained 58 pounds and my hair started falling out (and it’s still falling out).  If you can stand the trade offs, it can be a really good thing.

Re: Has anyone had a postive experience with this?
Depakote is like any other drug on the planet: if it works for you, it is the best thing going.  If it doesn’t, it is hell in a bottle.

My dad told me once: do you know how they come up with the birth control pill having 99% effectiveness?  It isn’t that it is 99% effective.  It is that it is 100% effective if it works for you, and ZERO percent if it doesn’t.  Statistically, the combination comes out to 99%.

That is kind of how Depakote works.

If you have the cooties for which Depakote is intended, like magic, your problems will seem to cease.  You won’t even necessarily gain weight.  In fact, the people I’ve met for whom Depakote really works have no weight gain from it.  The only people I’ve encountered who gain weight on Depakote are people who are having either NO success or PARTIAL success with the drug.
