Health QuestionsCategory: TreatmentsHow long before you felt Lithium?
Anonymous asked 3 years ago

I know that I am being impatient but this is day three of my life without 100mg prozac and with 300mg lithium.  I just want to get to a comfortable spot.

Also, what are some of the worst side effects you can blame on lithium?  I’ve had a 3 day headache that caffeine seems to help.

Re: How long before you felt Lithium?
Usually about a week, though YMMV. Are you to stay at 300mg? that is a very low dose. As far as side effects go, two words of advice, do not read about them and do be aware that many are transient.

Best of luck.

Re: How long before you felt Lithium?
300 is the initial serum buildup, I was wondering why they stopped the prozac for AD, so i have been ringing their phones non-stop.  They finally told me that I was to continue the prozac 100mg day.
Ritalin 2x 10 mg Ritalin SR 1x 20 mg day, Lithium 300 mg day.

Depends on where your head’s at. Three hundred mgs. is a baby dose if you are bouncing off the walls or want to kill something. Lithium is all about serum levels. It doesn’t work until your body uses it @ a level that is therapeutic. For most folks it’s around 900-1200 mgs. Doc is starting you off slow and easy so you won’t lose your breakfast and quit taking your meds. Evidently you are not in a place where you are bouncing off the walls either.

Is Prozac causing mania? Prozac takes a long time to completely clear your system.

How long does it take to ‘kick-in’? Believe it or not I started feeling a positive effect the second day. It wasn’t the full effect. My mania actually started to subside. It doesn’t fully kick in for a week or so, depending again on how your body uses it. Everybody’s different.

Peace

Re: How long before you felt Lithium?
i felt it right away too. first 300 i popped was an incredible high. i was in such ecstasy. i was hypomanic-y for a week. ..but in a good way where i wasn’t running around at the office anymore. which was the point. (day 3 was up to 600) i slowed down after that. into week 3, i became depressed, was upped to 900 and within a week was eerily stable, level .96

officially and in my experience, takes at least a week and full effect takes around a month.

Re: How long before you felt Lithium?
been on lithium just shy of a month now 27 mar.  Had some mania but it was short lived.  Manic right now.  Blood results should be in, pdoc said to wait before upping the dose.  Needs to be done.  my vision is almost 2dimensional right now.  glad i’m not panicked because i am uptight.  I feel like doing something stupid right now.

what’s the last thing a redneck says before a car crash?  “hey, hold my beer, I’m going to try something”

Ok though new question.  Did anyone feel sedated on lithium.  3 weeks and i’m pretty spent.  Did sedation last?
that’s it.  max
