Health QuestionsCategory: TreatmentsMy doc just added Luvox to my daily cocktail….
Beelzebubba asked 3 years ago

I went to the doctor today for my monthly check up (to get my Adderall refill) and he decided to throw 75mg of Luvox into my daily mix.  I currently take-

150 mg Wellbutrin XL daily
150 mg Effexor XR daily
30 mg Adderall 2x daily
15 mg Buspar 2x daily
and now 75mg Luvox daily

I’ll be taking my first dose before bed tonight.  I’m anxious (quite literally) to see what the side effects will be.  My OCD/Obsessive thoughts are the final major issue that we’re addressing since the depression, anxiety, paranoia and ADD.

Anyone have any experiences they’d care to share?

Yes.

Major Drug-Drug Interaction: Effexor XR (venlafaxine) and fluvoxamine (fluvoxamine)

MONITOR CLOSELY: Concomitant use of agents with serotonergic activity such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, 5-HT1 receptor agonists, ergot alkaloids, lithium, St. John’s wort, phenylpiperidine opioids, dextromethorphan, and 5-hydroxytryptophan may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A receptors. MANAGEMENT: In general, the concomitant use of multiple serotonergic agents should be avoided if possible, or otherwise approached with caution if potential benefit is deemed to outweigh the risk. Close monitoring is recommended for signs and symptoms of excessive serotonergic activity such as CNS irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, myoclonus, ataxia, abdominal cramping, hyperpyrexia, shivering, pupillary dilation, diaphoresis, hypertension, and tachycardia. Particular caution is advised when increasing the dosages of these agents. The potential risk of serotonin syndrome should be considered even when administering one serotonergic agent following discontinuation of another, as some agents may demonstrate a prolonged elimination half-life. For example, a 5-week washout period is recommended following use of fluoxetine before administering another serotonergic agent.

Re: My doc just added Luvox to my daily cocktail..
I have been taking it for a fair few months now.

I dont know what it will feel like with all those other meds but when I started taking Luvox for about two-three weeks the side affects were really annoying. I felt that nauseated and vague I could barely stand. I still get nauseated by taking them but its not so bad anymore. Just don’t miss any days with it as it really can make you feel really quite ill or strange.

I wouldn’t recommend taking it at night though, as it can cause insomnia in some individuals. (it sucks even worse if you already suffer with chronic insomnia)

I’ve found it great for anxiety, but not so good for depression.

Bubba,
Doc just added this one to my mix last week for severe OCD (following BP depression).  Nothing to report yet, but I’m glad to hear of someone making the journey with me.  Please keep your progress posted and I will do likewise.

Re: My doc just added Luvox to my daily cocktail..
I started on Luvox about 5 weeks ago and have had mixed reactions to it. Its the first time i’ve been medicated so I really wasn’t looking forward to having to take it.

It caused myalgia for the first 2 weeks – which is like extreme growing pains in your knees and am still having trouble sleeping. I have just been put on stilnox to try to combat the insomnia. I also had a very dry mouth for about a month – at least I upped my water intake.

Hopefully it works well with your other meds!

It has been great at calming me down – i’ve been having less anxiety attacks but for depression it has made zero difference. And i don’t know how affective its been for my OCD tendencies.

Hope all is going well for you.
