I noticed that Jerod has said that MAOIs are perhaps more likely to work if Remeron worked for you but pooped out (on the motherboard).

I’ll search around myself, but can anyone make a connection?

mirtazapine + MAOI got me [Tolerability and efficacy of combined antidepressant therapy], from which I learned that there are doctors out there combining tricyclics. Atypical depression + mirtazapine got me Status of treatment of depression. which says:

CONCLUSIONS: All available antidepressants have been found effective in the treatment of mild-to-moderate depression. Choice of agent is based primarily on side-effect profile. For patients with an atypical pattern of symptoms, SSRIs or MAOIs may be the most useful. Patients with severe depression or melancholic symptoms may respond better to tricyclic antidepressants, venlafaxine, or mirtazapine.
