Health QuestionsCategory: TreatmentsWhy is it good to drink electrolytes?
dr_seussie asked 3 years ago

I read a few threads where people have said make sure you drink plenty of water and electrolytes.

I’m reading a few threads just to find that and I can’t seem to find it.  If someone can point me in that direction or even make a brief comment about it in here then that would be cool.

I’ll be starting Topamax at the low dose next week, with my luck I’ll probably be sleeping a lot again.  I did when I was on Effexor and Paxil.

Luckily I have a job where I can go on short term leave and still get paid for it. So I’m prepared for anything.

Please help!

Re: Why is it good to drink electrolytes?
Water: To help your kidneys deal, so that ideally you avoid the stone issue.

Electrolytes: All that water is gunna dilute your blood and you’re going to pee out important…ELECTROLYTES! Low sodium or potassium can be quite bad for you. Like, seizures and heart arrythmias, respectively.

But don’t overdo the electrolytes either. I know too much potassium can screw with your heart (saw it on an EKG and everything), and I’m sure too much sodium does something too but I don’t remember what apart from retaining water.
