i’m so wasted man.

No seriously.  I’m feeling mighty fine!!  Pretty tired and SO out of it, but very relaxed and really very nice and laid back.  I’m just feeling so out of it and wondering how long I’m gonna feel like I’m wasted.  I don’t mind feeling like this for a few days as I’m getting used to it, but it could become a problem for me.  I went shopping with the family today and would have been lost in Target without them.  My 15 year old daughter was laughing her ass off at me.  I was trippin’ it was seriously funny, but would get pretty old after a while.

I just started 200mg 2x a day on Friday.  Pdoc says to double up next week??  Wow…I’m gonna be lost man!!!

Thanks for any advice guys.

Re: Wow…just started Carbatrol….and…
If the start dose is affecting you that much, you might wanna call the pdoc and ask if you can slow down the titration a bit.

I only went up 100/week. You’re at the dose I was at when my blood got eaten (that black box thing…agranulocytosis this time around. Fancy word for the med thinks my white blood cells are a tasty snack). That might bias me towards thinking going slower is better.

I am assuming you’re going to be getting the proper blood work done?

Re: Wow…just started Carbatrol….and…
I’m hoping that my brain will settle into the 400mgs a day, but I just can’t see how I’ll be able to function on 800mgs.  So I’m going to call pdoc on Monday and see if he will let me go up by just 100mgs instead of 200mgs.  I honestly like how calm I have felt, granted it has only been two days…

I’m a little pissed off because my ass hat pdoc didn’t say a word about blood work!!!  I see him in two weeks, so maybe he was going to spring it on me then????  Nice!!!  Jerk.  I hate it when he doesn’t give me all the info. on a friggin’ medication.  Of course, I was a mess on Friday, so I was pretty desperate for some help and of course he was just in a damn hurry as usual.  Gotta love the bedside manner these days.

Thanks for your help Kassiane.  I knew I could get answers here!!  Thank you…

The only thing my pdoc told me when I started on Tegrtol Retard 12 years ago was that the effect of birth contoll pills could be poor. And I’m a GUY!

Now THAT’s funny.

If your doc doesn’t bring up blood work next time, here in the States a lot of hospitals are doing a thing called First Lab, where you can order your own CBCs and blood type tests (I’m B+ if anyone cares) and complete metabolic panels and several other things. So if you’re in the US that might be an option. I was getting them every 2 weeks that way because the blood eating hits pretty fast (somewhere before week 4 both times. Ack!)

If you don’t have that, slap him around with a PI sheet. Or if you have insurance, slap him around with the WHOLE damn PI sheet.

Re: Wow…just started Carbatrol….and…
Spoke to pdoc yesterday.  He said not to go up on the Carb. for now and when we do go up, we will go up by 100mgs, since I seem to be so sedated by it.

I mentioned the blood work issue and he told me that I would need to have my blood drawn two/three weeks after being on the med.  Like I said I see him in, well less than two week now, so I will get more detailed info then.  He didn’t act like the blood tests would be ongoing tests, so I might just have to take my health into my own hands like Kassiane suggested.  Pretty sad really.

I’m not a huge fan of having my blood drawn, but I’m more a fan of not being crazy, so I quess I have to take the less of two evils there!!  Besides I always ask for the wimps fainting area, so I can lie down when they draw my blood.  The lab techs like it that way, so they don’t have to pick my ass up and hey I seem to not freak out as bad either.

Thanks again for all your help everyone!!

Just one more question.  Is there a normal sweet spot with this med? Or does it just vary by person and by blood test?  Sorry to be such an idiot.  I have read that, I think it was Dr. Jim Phelps, recommeds to just get to 1200 mgs.  I can’t imagine how long it will take my body to get to 1200mgs!!!!  Thanks again…
