Health QuestionsCategory: TreatmentsZoloft make you sleepy?
Gianna asked 3 years ago

I’ve had a long standing problem with extreme tiredness. Recently I relapsed into a nasty depression and was put on Zoloft. Now I seem even more tired. Any one else have this problem? It’s really bad. It’s always been bad though, so I’m wondering if I’m imagining it being worse. Tell me your stories.

The good news is my depression was relieved, but it took 150mg. I’m also bipolar and it’s not doing any of the tweaky stuff you guys say it can do with someone bipolar. I suppose I’m lucky.

Re: Zoloft make you sleepy?
hard to tell if it the drug or the depression making you tired.  being depressed or anxious is tiring.  extremely tiring.  exercise helps, but I’m usually too tired to do it.  sleep works when it’s not full of teeth clenching and tongue chewing.

Re: Zoloft make you sleepy?
I do exercise quite a bit in spite of feeling like if I move I’ll fall over. It’s just getting harder to move. And my depression has actually really ebbed off since I increased the dose.

thanks for the response.

Re: Zoloft make you sleepy?
I’ve had a terrible time with sleepiness all my life. I think it’s the way my body copes with depression. I just check out. I’m on 150 mgs of Zoloft, 35 mgs Adderall. I take 200 mgs of Provigil to offset the sleepiness and it worked for over a year. Something is either pooping out lately or I’m going into a depression again because I can’t seem to stay awake even with the Adderall and Provigil.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Re: Zoloft make you sleepy?
Yep: call your Pdoc.  You may be having the illustrious “anti-depressant poop out” going on and need to switch to, or add another one.

The National Institute of Mental Health just completed a study on this and found that for many people, simply adding another AD could bring people back up to functional.
