Stroke : causes, symptoms, treatment, classification

Stroke:-

Stroke is the term used to indicate loss of brain function. stroke is also called as cerebrovascular accident. stroke is caused due to lack of blood supply to brain cells, cerebral hemorrhage or moving blood clot. stroke has become the leading cause of death in USA, Europe and other countries. As a medical emergency stroke can cause permanent neurological damage, many complications and if not treated stroke leads to death. when particular part of brain cell death occurs, the function carried by that part is altered. most of the people come across warning signs prior to getting stroke. warning signs may include , numbness, muscle weakness at particular part of body.


Classification of stroke:-
stroke is classified as:

1. ischemic stroke : caused by reduced blood supply to the brain cells. atherosclerosis and other artery diseases associated with aging are the main cause of ischemic stroke.

2. hemorrhagic stroke : caused due to cerebral hemorrhage . the hemorrhage may occur due to untreated hypertension or any external injuries.

Causes of stroke:-

* atherosclerosis

* uncontrolled hypertension

* severe hyperglycemia

* cardiac diseases

* smoking

* increased cholesterol level


Symptoms of stroke:-

* muscle weakness usually half side of the body, including facial muscles

* loss of body balance, and co-ordination

* confusion and disorientation

* altered special senses such as hearing, vision, smell etc.

* altered sensory perception

* loss of vision, usually one eye.

* headache

* urinary incontinence

* slurred speech.


Prevention of stroke:-

* maintain blood pressure in normal range

* blood glucose to be in normal range.

* if you are smoking give-up.

* take low cholesterol food.

* go for periodical medical checkup.  .
