Throat cancer : diagnosis and symptoms
Throat cancer:-
Cancer which occurs in the pharynx, and larynx region including vocal-cord is called as Throat cancer.
Genetic factor may cause throat cancer, but the smokers and people with reflux esophagitis are at high risk of throat cancer.
Throat cancer symptoms:-
The symptoms of throat cancer may be general associated with other illness, or specific. The common symptoms of throat cancer are
Chronic sore throat, ( slow and gradual onset)
Chronic middle earache,
Difficulty in speaking,
numbness in the face,
Enlargement of lymph-nodes in neck region.
Horse voice while speaking,
sores on the tongue or in mouth,
Pain while swallowing food.
Swelling in the neck region,
Feeling of obstruction while breathing.
Difficulty while coughing.
Sputum with blood,
Most of these symptoms may be seen with some other infections such as flu, long term common cold. But the persistence of symptoms for more than one or two week, indicates throat cancer.
Diagnosis of throat cancer:-
The diagnosis of throat cancer is made by the senior specialist doctor. The thorough medical history collection also helps in confirming diagnosis of throat cancer.
If throat cancer is confirmed, the biopsy ( sample tissue) of throat tissue is taken and send to laboratory.
Other diagnostic test for throat cancer:-
Computed tomography, or CT scan.
Magnetic resonance imaging, ( MRI scan )
Ultrasound scan and
X-ray of throat region.
