Question: I am 50 years of age. I went to the dentist for the first time in my life as I never had pain in my teeth. Few of my teeth are getting loose. The dentist says that they need to be removed. What can be done if I lose four teeth? I don’t want to use dentures. Is it possible to have fixed teeth (fixed dentures)? Can my teeth be used for that purpose? Answer (by Dr. Chirag Semlani): Get the loose teeth removed. There are some fixed option to replace the lost teeth. You can either go for bridges or implants. In bridges the neighbouring teeth are grinded and a cap is placed to support the lost teeth. Various materials are used for caps, according to your pocket you can go ahead with the best one. A dental implant is a surgical fixture that is placed at the lost tooth site inside the jaw bone and allowed to fuse with the bone over a span of few months. Implant act as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth and holds a replacement tooth or bridge. There are some conditions of the teeth and the jaw for placement of bridges and implants. Consult your dentist for the same.
