I am seven months pregnant and having severe pain in my tooth. I went to a dentist he says I require filling to be done. Can I get my filling done? Is it going to affect my pregnancy? Please advise me regarding, how can I take care of my teeth during pregnancy? Answer (by Dr. Chirag Semlani): Fillings can be done in the pregnancy. Dental treatment you need to avoid in pregnancies are surgical one as in tooth extraction, gum surgeries. The best time to do dental treatment is second trimester of pregnancy (from third to sixth month of pregnancy). Taking care of teeth is much more important in pregnancy as there are hormonal fluctuations in the body, which directly affect oral health. Regular brushing and mouthwash with dental flossing take care of the teeth. A regular cleaning by the dentist every 3 months will also help.
